H1N1 FLU PREVENTION/ INFORMATION

The H1NI Flu Virus, like other flu viruses, spreads from person to person, mainly through coughs and sneezes of people who are sick. People may become infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or rubbing their eyes. Students and adults who become sick should not come to school and should stay home. If you have these flu symptoms, please go to your doctor or the Carter County Health Department: fever and cough or sore throoat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, vomiting or diarrhea. Please keep children at home until they are FEVER FREE 24 HOURS WITHOUT USING FEVER-LOWERING MEDICATION SUCH AS TYLENOL OR IBUPROFEN.

It is important to teach your child what they need to do to prevent the spread of the flu virus by following these instructions: Avoid close contact with people who are sick, cover your coughs and sneezes with your hand, elbow, or tissue, Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If water is not near, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Try not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth since germs often spread this way.

We are in daily contact with the Carter County Health Department and will keep you informed. For more information, you may visit the following websites:
